Health & Wellbeing day 2026

More than 81 local residents took part in free health checks and consultations at SaiGuru London’s Health & Wellbeing Day, held at The Sai Epicentre, Leytonstone, on Sunday 13 September 2026. The community-led event formed part of SaiGuru London’s ongoing commitment to supporting the health, wellbeing and wider needs of people in the local community. It brought together more than 14 doctors and healthcare professionals, alongside community organisations and local services, giving residents an opportunity to access health checks, professional advice, consultations and signposting in a welcoming community setting. Healthcare professionals covered a broad range of areas, including general health and wellbeing, mental health, elderly care, dental health, physiotherapy and children’s health.

GP support was also provided by doctors connected with Lyndhurst Surgery, Francis Road Medical Practice, St James Medical Practice and Richmond Road Medical Practice, helping residents access advice and better understand where to seek further support where needed.

Bringing Community Services Together

Alongside healthcare professionals, a number of community and outreach services took part, making the day a wider wellbeing and community-support event. Residents were able to access information and guidance from the Metropolitan Police on community safety and drug awareness, as well as support relating to autism awareness, career counselling, yoga and wellbeing.

The Waltham Forest Public Health Social Prescribing Team provided information about social prescribing and community-based support, while Positive East offered sexual health awareness and information. By bringing different services together under one roof, the event aimed not only to support residents with immediate health concerns, but also to connect people with organisations, services and resources that could continue to support them beyond the day itself.

Supporting Children and Families

Families were very much part of the day. The Toy Library from Waltham Forest created a dedicated children’s zone, with activities for younger visitors while parents and family members accessed the health and wellbeing services available. Children and families were also invited to take part in cricket taster sessions led by Sajid Patel, Founder of the National Cricket League, encouraging physical activity, participation and community engagement.

Working Together for the Local Community

The event was supported by representatives from the London Borough of Waltham Forest, including Councillor Paul Perkins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council; Councillor Rachel Barrat; Councillor Aisha Abubakar and Sharon Hanooman, Public Health Strategist (Social Prescribing). During the visit, council representatives met members of the SaiGuru London team and toured the newly refurbished Sai EpiCentre. Discussions focused on SaiGuru London’s wider community work and the potential for the refurbished facilities to be used to support local residents, voluntary groups, community initiatives and future health and wellbeing programmes. For SaiGuru London, the Health & Wellbeing Day was about more than providing health checks. It was about bringing people, professionals and local organisations together and making support easier to access within the community. SaiGuru London is committed to serving people from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths, and to developing The Sai EpiCentre as a welcoming community space where local people can connect, access support and take part in activities that promote health, wellbeing, inclusion and stronger community relationships. The success of the Health & Wellbeing Day demonstrated what can be achieved when healthcare professionals, community organisations, volunteers and local authorities work together with a shared purpose, supporting the wellbeing of the community we all serve.
